Design has a great impact on all aspect of life in our modern societies. At the same time the current communication design is the subject of intense criticism: it's superficial, formalistic and uncommunicative. There is a need to open a new and public debate about the prospective role of design and its quality criteria. Along with four fellow students we composed five different approaches, that elaborate various aspects of the matter from different perspectives. We asked people who are daily confronted with design without being part of the draft process: from the point of view of scientists, sociologists and historians, jurors or editors, marketing-departments, costumers, consumers etc. … My Examination of design theorie and design history shall contribute to a new and better understanding of the meaning of design, how it developed, how it effects people and why we need it desperately.
